Isaiah 53:6 states, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Who are these people? What do they think is happening? What are their expectations? Who do they think Jesus is? What do they think he is doing? Where do they think he is going? And what is he trying to accomplish?
The answers are found in today's text. As we look at the various people John mentions and try to understand the role they played in this moment in the passion of Jesus, we will discover that the words of Isaiah ring true even hundreds of years after he penned them. The conclusion, Jesus was the only one who knew what he was doing, where he was going, and for whom he was living... and dying.
