Pastor Bayles

Pastor and Mrs Bayles celebrating their 46th wedding Anniversary

Pastor John Bayles and his wife, Karen, have been associated with Twinbrook Community Church (formerly Halpine Baptist Church) for over 38 years. Pastor Bayles served in a lay-leader capacity from 1973 to 1978 when he became the first full-time Administrative Assistant to his mentor and pastor at that time. He was ordained into the Christian ministry at the church in 1979.

In the early years, he led the worship ministry and developed a Christian Education training and counseling ministry. After his graduation from the University of Maryland in 1981, he was granted a leave of absence from 1982 to 1985 to study at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1985), in Boston, MA. In 1985, he returned to Maryland to plant a church in Germantown – Grace Fellowship.

The Bayleses returned to the Rockville area in 1998 through the merger of Amaranth Fellowship of Germantown (formerly Grace Fellowship) and Halpine Baptist Church. From 1998 to the present, Pastor Bayles has served as senior pastor and, from December 2009 to 2015, Karen, also a University of Maryland graduate (in Elementary Education), oversaw our daycare as its director.

Pastor and Mrs. Bayles have four adult children: Christine, Katherine, David and Daniel.

In addition to being the Pastor of Twinbrook Community Church, Pastor Bayles is currently working on his Doctorate from Erskin Theological Seminary and is also the President of Covenant Theological Seminary, FL, which is actively involved with master's discipleship training in prisons and self-directed study.
